Brian Burns Continues Hold-In

Published: Sep 04, 2023 at 11:12 PM
Carolina Panthers linebacker Brian Burns declined to take part in another practice on Monday while he looks for a new contract entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2023. Burns hasn't explained why he's been sitting out, but head coach Frank Reich said it was a "business decision." "My view of Brian Burns doesn't diminish at all. We understand there's a business side to this thing we do. I still respect and admire the way he's handled himself. I have nothing but the highest regard for Brian Burns," Reich said. The 25-year-old is owed $16 million this year, but he's looking for a long-term contract extension. If he continues to sit out into the regular season, he would lose $900,000 per week.
