Kyle Trask Will Get A Chance To Start In 2023

Published: Feb 27, 2023 at 07:09 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask will compete for the starting job in 2023 after Tom Brady retired this offseason. It's what the Bucs told at least several candidates who interviewed for the offensive coordinator job that went to Dave Canales. Tampa also plans to add a veteran or two to compete with Trask, but they are also $56.53 million over the 2023 salary cap, so their options will be limited. Trask was a second-rounder and has been the heir apparent to Brady, but he couldn't win the No. 2 job over Blaine Gabbert in training camp last summer. Trask has good size and an adequate arm with functional mobility in the pocket. He's only completed 58.4% of his passes in the preseason, though, and he's only made one regular season appearance in his two years in the NFL. The 24-year-old will be in a QB-friendly system if he's starting, but the Bucs will want him to be more of a game manager.
