Trent Williams, 49ers Closing In On Deal Ahead Of Week 1

Published: Sep 03, 2024 at 01:32 PM
Trent Williams, an 11-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle, and the San Francisco 49ers are working to finalize a deal. Williams returned to the Bay Area Monday night after an offseason absence from the team. While there are still a few details to address, the deal is expected to be completed this week, aiming for him to be ready for the Week 1 opener next Monday night against the New York Jets. In 2023, Williams was the top pass-blocking tackle in the NFL with a 95.8% pass-block win rate. The 49ers averaged 6.05 yards per carry when running to the left side behind Williams, compared to 4.45 yards per attempt on other runs. Last season, Williams missed two games, played through an injury in another, and had only 12 snaps in a meaningless Week 18 game against the Rams. The 49ers were 0-4 in those games but 12-1 otherwise. His presence is crucial for the 49ers' offense, particularly for running back Christian McCaffrey, the consensus top overall pick in fantasy.
