Sam Darnold Still Learning The Offense

Published: Jul 05, 2023 at 03:18 PM
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold, who will be competing for a backup role with Trey Lance in training camp this summer, has received positive reviews during offseason workouts. The former third overall pick by the New York Jets recently said that he's still learning the offense. "It's been a work in progress," Darnold said. "I thought I got better throughout (mini) camp and just got more comfortable with the system, so I still got to study and go through the process of continuing to learn the system. But I'm excited for it, and it's been really fun so far." The 26-year-old is looking to revitalize his career in San Francisco under offensive mastermind Kyle Shanahan, but even if he beats out Lance this summer, there's a good chance Darnold will be holding a clipboard on the sideline on Sundays.
