Sam Darnold Designated To Return From IR

The Carolina Panthers designated quarterback Sam Darnold (ankle) to return from Injured Reserve on Wednesday. Darnold reportedly looked good in his return to practice on Wednesday, but he won't play in Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Panthers now have 21 days to officially activate him from IR. With Baker Mayfield (ankle) to miss another game this weekend with a high-ankle sprain, the Panthers will once again roll with P.J. Walker against the Bucs for only his fourth NFL start in his three years in the league. Mayfield has disappointed in his first five games with Carolina, so there's a chance that Darnold will have a shot to win the starting job back once he's healthy enough to come off IR. Fantasy managers desperate at the position in superflex leagues may want to grab Darnold now if he's available on the waiver wire.
