Jake Browning Doesn't Do Much To Impress Friday

Published: Aug 12, 2023 at 03:00 PM
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning got the start in Friday's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, suggesting he's ahead of Trevor Siemian for the backup job to Joe Burrow (calf). Browning played the entire first half, going 10-for-17 for 95 yards and an interception in the eventual 36-19 loss. He was also sacked one time. Siemian played the entire second half and went 15-for-28 for 121 yards and an interception. The Bengals are hoping that Burrow will be ready for the Week 1 regular season opener, but if he's not, either Browning or Siemian will have to make at least one start to kick off the year. The two signal-callers will continue to compete for the backup job in next week's preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons.
