Dre Greenlaw Suffers Torn Achilles In Super Bowl

Published: Feb 12, 2024 at 06:38 PM
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) officially tore his Achilles in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday in the overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Greenlaw suffered the devastating injury while simply running onto the field in the second quarter. It was a big loss for the 49ers defense the rest of the way in the 25-22 loss, as the 26-year-old was excellent all year, amassing 120 tackles (75 solo), a career-high 1.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, four QB hits and four passes defensed in 15 regular season starts in his fifth year with the team. Greenlaw will now face a long and grueling rehab this offseason and probably isn't going to be ready for training camp this summer. Before going down with the fluke injury in the Super Bowl, he had just three assisted tackles in the first half.
