Brandon Aiyuk Will Be Low-End Flex

Published: Oct 07, 2022 at 12:00 PM
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk faces an average Carolina Panthers defense in Week 5. The Panthers are ranked No. 16 in total defense grade by PFF, and they are giving up the 12th fewest passing yards per game. The 49ers offense has been leaning on the run and throwing the ball less often than 27 other teams, and Aiyuk is the clear No. 2 WR. He is averaging 6.7 targets and 4.0 receptions per game for 46.3 yards per game and just one touchdown. He is being targeted slightly more often than he was last season, but his catch rate is down by six points, and his drop percentage has doubled to 8.7%. If he can haul in more of his targets and get lucky with a touchdown, he could be able to finish as a low-end second flex.
