Brad Holmes Says Jahmyr Gibbs Is A "Special Weapon"

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes is excited about what rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs brings to the team's backfield in 2023. "But I think David Montgomery and Jamaal Williams are different backs. Montgomery does a little bit more in the passing game. And being able to add Gibbs, he's just so dynamic as a receiver. Look, he's a home run hitter as a running back, that's the easy part. What he does as a receiver -- he runs routes like a receiver." The Lions surprised many when they took Gibbs 12th overall in this year's draft, and Holmes said Gibbs is a "multi-phase, elite, explosive, positionless weapon." The GM also compared Gibbs to Marshall Faulk and Christian McCaffrey in terms of the impact he could have on the offense. That's a lot to live up to for the 21-year-old, and while he may not be a workhorse right away, he'll have immediate RB2 upside in PPR leagues in the Lions offense.
