Baker Mayfield Wants To Retire With Buccaneers

Published: Jul 15, 2023 at 03:01 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, the first overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2018, wants to stay with the team for as long as possible. "He's looking for a place where he can hopefully play well and finish out his career and play to the level of expectations that were placed on him when he was the No. 1 overall pick," former NFL general manager Rick Spielman said. Mayfield will be competing with Kyle Trask for the starting QB gig in 2023 now that Tom Brady is retired, and the Bucs are willing to take all of training camp and the preseason to name the starter. The 28-year-old had his ups and downs last year with the Panthers and Rams, and he figures to be more of the same in Tampa if he wins the job.
