Travis Kelce A Sure-Fire TE1 Despite Tough Matchup
Published: Dec 16, 2023 at 04:40 AM
2023 has been another dominant year for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The ageless eight-time Pro Bowler is topping his position in receiving yards (896), full-PPR fantasy points per game (16.5), yards per route run (2.36), and fantasy points per route run (0.52) as the focal point of the Chiefs passing attack. The calling card of Bill Belichick's defense has long been to take away his opponent's best offensive weapon, and Kelce sticks out like a sore thumb in this regard. This philosophy rings true in Kelce's five career dates against the New England Patriots, averaging 5.6 catches (8.2 targets) for 66.0 yards and one total touchdown since 2014. The Pats are holding opposing TEs to the third-fewest fantasy points per game this year to boot. Kelce is as matchup-proof that a TE1 can come, but he's not a cinch to top Week 15 positional rankings with T.J. Hockenson and Sam LaPorta facing two of the NFL's worst TE defenses.
