Rashawn Slater A Candidate For Extension

Published: Jul 06, 2024 at 05:07 PM
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater became eligible for a contract extension at the end of last season. The Chargers picked up his fifth-year option in May, meaning he is under contract through the 2025 season. Slater has become an elite tackle, and the price for that position is only going up. Lions right tackle Penei Sewell, drafted six spots ahead of Slater in the first round in 2021, signed for $28 million in average annual value earlier this offseason. It will be interested to see if the Bolts wait to see Slater play in the new offense under head coach Jim Harbaugh before they commit to him long-term. The 25-year-old former 13th overall pick in 2021 out of Northwestern will be even more important to LA's offense in 2024 as they look to become more of a physical, run-first unit under Harbaugh and new offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
