McDermott "Nervous" About Number Of Hits On Josh Allen

Published: Mar 26, 2023 at 08:08 PM
While speaking to NFL Network's Judy Battista, head coach Sean McDermott admitted he's "absolutely nervous" about the amount of hits quarterback Josh Allen took last season. "I don't think that's a healthy way to play QB in this league," McDermott said. "We have to get that adjusted, and it's never going to go completely away, but it has to get where it's workable." Allen was in the MVP conversation last season, accounting for 42 touchdowns and throwing for 4,283 yards and 14 interceptions. He also had 124 carries for 762 yards, one-yard shy of matching his career-high from the 2021-22 campaign. However, the signal-caller was tackled on 66% of his runs downfield and also suffered an elbow injury, which fortunately didn't require surgery. Allen completed 69.2% of his passes in 2020 after connecting on 58.8% or less during his first two seasons. But since then, Allen's completion percentage has declined to 63.3% in the previous two years, so the 2018 first-round pick will need to improve in that area. If he doesn't, it could be a long season for fantasy managers, especially if McDermott plans on capping his mobility.
