Joe Mixon Could Be Released
Published: Apr 19, 2023 at 06:19 PM
Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon reportedly could be released if he doesn't take the pay cut the team is expected to ask of him this offseason. Mixon is slated to count as a nearly $13 million cap hit for 2023. It doesn't help that Mixon is also in the middle of legal trouble after a first-degree misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing by the city of Cincinnati. Mixon rushed for just 3.9 yards per carry and backup running back Samaje Perine was more efficient in 2022. Between his cap hit, off-the-field issues, and on-field decline, there's a real chance Mixon could be released in the coming weeks. If Mixon is released, expect the Bengals to have a plan to replace him in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mixon would find likely find a new home for a different team, but his best days are likely behind him as a fantasy running back.
