James Cook Splits Work Sunday

Published: Oct 16, 2023 at 05:23 AM
Running back James Cook re-entered a frustratingly even timeshare with thorn-in-the-side Latavius Murray while the Buffalo Bills scraped by the New York Giants 14-9 in Week 6. Murray took the game's opening snaps while he and Cook functioned as a tag team, alternating chances at starting drives. Cook was predictably more efficient, rounding up 71 yards on 14 carries to Murray's 45 yards on his 12 attempts. Though Damien Harris (neck) was forced from Sunday night's tilt with a scary-looking neck injury, Murray doesn't seem to be going away any time soon, and this was a troubling step back for Cook's usage. The 24-year-old is averaging just 56.3 total yards across his last three games after gathering 111.3 yards per game across his initial three contests. The Bills should be sizable favorites for Week 7's meeting with the division-rival Patriots in New England, but Cook is still likely to be only a midrange RB2.
