Giants Not Close To Deal With Daniel Jones

Published: Mar 02, 2023 at 05:02 PM
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen said the team isn't close to reaching a long-term contract extension with impending free-agent quarterback Daniel Jones. "You're starting to feel the time crunch a little bit. I wish we were a little bit closer on a deal than what we are right now. But again, there's still time," Schoen said. The GM said he met with Jones' agents on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and will meet with them again on Thursday. FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano doesn't see how the Giants can franchise tag Jones at $32.4 million and still re-sign running back Saquon Barkley, which is why they are working so hard to avoid the tag with Jones. The deadline to put franchise tags on players is next Tuesday. Jones is reportedly asking for $45 million per season after his best year in the NFL in 2022.
