Cade Otton In Leadership Role As TE1 In 2023

Published: Aug 05, 2023 at 03:02 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cade Otton is stepping into a leadership role as the team's starting tight end in 2023 in his second year in the NFL, with offensive coordinator Dave Canales trying to magnify Otton's skill set alongside second-year man Ko Kieft, rookie Payne Durham and veteran David Wells. Under Canales, the Bucs are expected to use much more 12 personnel (two tight ends) this year after using it just 17.4% of the time in 2022. Kieft is primarily used as a blocker. Otton, a fourth-rounder last year, is the prototypical Y receiver, adept at sustaining blocks and finding soft spots in zone coverage. Otton will have plenty of opportunities as the team's top pass-catching tight end, but with Tom Brady no longer around, most fantasy managers will be passing on Otton in drafts this fall.
