Buccaneers Officially Put Franchise Tag On Antoine Winfield Jr.

Published: Mar 05, 2024 at 07:13 PM
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially placed the franchise tag on safety Antoine Winfield Jr. on Tuesday, according to sources. It will be a placeholder until the two sides can hammer out a long-term contract extension that they will continue to work on and want to get done. If Winfield plays out the 2024 season on the tag, it will be worth $17.1 million fully guaranteed. The 25-year-old is one of the best safeties in the game without a doubt and is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he was the top-scoring defensive back in IDP scoring, accumulating 122 tackles (76 solo), six sacks, 12 passes defensed, three interceptions, six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. There's no reason why he shouldn't be the first defensive back off the board in IDP drafts this fall.
