Brock Purdy's Surgery To Be Delayed
Published: Feb 22, 2023 at 05:01 PM
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (elbow) visited Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday, and the doctor recommended postponing surgery because of ongoing inflammation in Purdy's elbow, according to sources. They will reconvene in March, and all signs point to a UCL repair that would have Purdy ready for the 2023 season. The 23-year-old was initially scheduled to go under the knife on Wednesday, but continued swelling has pushed those plans back. The longer Purdy goes without having surgery, the greater the chance that he won't be ready to compete with Trey Lance for starting QB duties in training camp this summer. There's also a chance that doctors will need to do more extensive surgery on his elbow once they get in there, which would effectively keep Purdy from being ready for the start of next season.
